    Many high schools have reduced the role of the College Counselor — or completely eliminated the position as a result of budget cuts and shifting of priorities.

    As a result, today’s high schools cannot provide the kind of individualized, in-depth attention to college preparation and selection your student needs.

    Kilgour College Consulting assists your student through the entire college search process. Your student will benefit from working with an admission professional and a college counselor.

    We’ll guide your student from the beginning of the process — course and activity selection — through the final decision about which college to attend.

    We encourage an initial complimentary conversation to discuss how we can best meet the needs of your student. Our services are diverse and vary based on the grade level of the student and needs of the family and student. Services include:

    • Class Schedule and Extracurricular Planning
    • Test taking schedule
    • College Lists including a combination of safety, target and reach schools
    • Monitoring the student’s progress to ensure all deadlines are met
    • Preserving the parent-student relationship during the final year of high school
    • Development of application materials
    • Essay idea development and editing of multiple drafts
    • Marketing of collegiate athletic interest
    • Provide guidance to ensure a productive college visits
    • Scholarship and Financial Aid counseling

    Qualifications

    The college process can be overwhelming and difficult for both students and their families. There are many important decisions to be made throughout the entire college search. We possess a unique background that allows for a deep understanding of the admission process from the perspective of both the guidance counselor and the director of college admissions. With more than 50 years of combined experience in higher education and college admission, we understand each step of the process and are here to assist both students and parents in navigating this journey.

     

    Dean Kilgour

    Dean earned his Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Occidental College. He has nearly 40 years of college admission experience, including 15 years as a Dean or Director of Admission and currently serves as the Assistant Vice President for Enrollment. He has extensive knowledge of college admission and student financing practices and has served on committees at the state and national level, most recently as the President of the National Catholic College Admission Association.

     

    Deanna Kilgour

    Deanna earned her Bachelor’s degree in English from Occidental College and M.A. in Higher Education from UCLA. She has many years of college counseling experience, including eight years in financial aid and 20 years with the Western Association for College Admission Counseling, a professional development organization for college admission and high school college counselors.
